28. Let it go
July 30, 2009
Publishing content is a monster leap for most. We are naturally critical of our own words and it is an uncomfortable concept for millions of people. Letting go and putting our opinions out for public scrutiny is not an easy thing. It takes confidence and vision to see that the professional benefits out weight your resistance to the concept of writing.
People that let go and publish content are harnessing a tool and capitalizing on it. They are using an inexpensive media channel to gain attention and attract others. Writing and publishing puts the focus on you and the subject you choose to write about.
In the past, deciding not to publish profession content seemed like an option. Businesses were still discovered based on their industry and recognized by a name. However, in today’s Web searches we are seeing layers upon layers covering up relevant business listings. Inactivity on the Web is no longer a feasible option for small businesses. Professionals that can’t let go are unknowingly positioning themselves behind their competitors. Search engines are mercilessly ranking relevancy and Web stature. Professionals that let go and publish are in the game at a minimum, if not fighting for the top, while the unpublished professional continues to get pushed down in the results. If businesses see the value in being found in an Internet search or ranked high on the results list, they should easily see the value of professional content and be able to link the two.
Writing articles, posting perspectives and sharing useful information ensures visibility and provides a practical purpose. Publishing is a powerful avenue that trumps advertising when trying to gain prominence on the Web. Publishing gives consumers and Search Engines dimension into you and your business, and this is power.
